how to convert *.xmcd to *.mcdx programatically?

Hi All,

After reading so many discussions about Mathcad Prime 2.0, I could easily see the dissappointment among the Mathcad users.

Anyways, I come to my point..

1. How to convert legacy files like *.xmcd to *.mcdx programatically. Eg. Mathcad 14 has Worksheet.saveAs("20") to save older files to *.xmcd format?

2. I am not sure who can answer this but if I have a lifetime license for Mathcad software then would I be able to use Mathcad Prime as well. Does the question sound foolish?

3. Can somebody post a Mathcad Prime worksheet which has simple calculations like addition of 2 numbers or string manupulations etc? I am facing some license issues so not able to create my own. I wanted to study the difference between the xml structure of the files, if created in Mathcad 14 or Mathcad Prime 2.0.

Many thanks,

Ashish

ad 1) The only way offered by PTC to convert older Mathcad formats to the Prime mcdx-format is am extern converter (which is capable of doing batch conversions). For this to work you need to have installed Prime2 as well as the latest release of Mathcad 15 (which means that your licensed MC 14 will be uninstalled!).

Its ridiculous, but there is no simple and natural way via file open as is usual standard in any other software.

Furthermore there is no way back - Prime can not save in older formats and there is no converter available, too! The only "format" other than .mcdx Prime can save, is .XPS.

Be aware that, unless you have very simple worksheets, the converted files would need some (sometimes a lot) of manual postprocessing. Sometimes sheets won't work at all because Primes features are only a subset of Mathcad15/14's features - some features simply are not implemented and therefore cannot be converted.

ad 2) Not sure what kind of license you own and thats something you have to clarify with your PTC representative, I guess. What I understand is, that, if you bought MC14 you have the lifetime right to use that version (not MC15 and not P2) - which does not mean you have any rights to demand updates, upgrades, maintainance releases, support. etc. If you additionally bought maintainance, you are entitled for upgrades and maintainance releases. I am not sure if PTC ever offered something like a lifetime maintainance - I guess, no.

ad 3) See attached a simply worksheet along with its representation in pdf-format for whatever you intend to do with it. What licensing issues do you encounter? In any way you should be able to use Prime2 in the free evaluation flavor and later as crippled express version which should be enough to create a WS with simple basic operation (symbolics and solvers are not available in express, though).
